Product Development Intern

Job Description: Under the guidance of a senior Food Technologist, the R&D intern will conduct a research project to explore, identity, validate and implement new processing, ingredients, equipment, and technologies that will support and drive the growth of Columbus deli and salami business. At the end of the internship program, the R&D intern will also present the research findings and make the appropriate recommendations to the business team to drive the business forward.
Conduct literature research/review on assigned projects.
Conduct experiment design on assigned projects.
Project may include:
Testing new ingredients and processes
Conducting meat quality audits
Preparing and presenting food prototypes for review by sales, marketing, operations and R&D.
Work on production floor (meat processing) and collect data
Data processing and analysis
Perform chemical and physical analyses.
Develop nutritional analyses, and nutritional database management.
Apply nutritional information into calculations, formulations and database
Participate in technical team meetings
Other responsibilities/duties as required
Must have at least Junior status and major in Food Science, Animal Science or related field with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Demonstrated leadership skills are necessary for success in this position.
Knowledge of and experience with sensory analysis, statistics and nutritional programs is beneficial
Experience working at a USDA meat processing facility would be beneficial
Possess a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
Have an open mind and embrace the diverse culture of the SF Bay area.
Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States

Location and Hours:
Position is based out of Hayward, California.
Position is full time, 40 hours per week beginning late May and ending mid August.
